A
Peripheral Arterial Doppler exam evaluates the amount of blood flow from
your heart to your legs or arms.
When you were referred by your physician for a
radiological exam, you may have been told about certain instructions to
be done prior to the exam, or when you were scheduling your appointment,
the scheduler should have informed you about the preparations that
should be done prior to your exam. If you did not or if you want a
recheck, you can refer to the information listed below.
Keep in
mind that you may have been given some additional or different
instructions, based on your own particular circumstances. If you have
any questions, please call
our hotline 16171 or (202) 3336-3310 (Mohandeseen),
(202) 2417 5556 (Heliopolis) or (202) 2528 4888 (Maadi) to speak with a
radiologist if you have any questions. It is best to call between 10
a.m. and 10 p.m., Saturday through Thursday.
Instructions
For this
examination, your stomach must be as empty as possible.
You must not eat
or drink after midnight the night prior to your exam, nor smoke or chew
gum. You may brush your teeth, but avoid swallowing water.

Children under
the age of 18 years need to be accompanied by an adult (parent or
guardian). We strongly advise that patients not bring children along
without another responsible supervising adult. We cannot provide
supervision for the children.
Plan to allow 45 minutes to one hour for this exam.
During this, warm
gel will be applied to your skin. A transducer, a device that converts
electrical energy into sound waves, will be moved over your skin to look
inside your arteries. The gel prevents air from getting between the
transducer and your skin. Although you feel the transducer moving on
your skin, you should feel no discomfort.

After the exam
you can resume your normal activities.
Results of your
exams will be discussed with you by your doctor.
