The
test takes about 2 and a half hours to complete. You will be given an
injection of a radioactive tracer (material that can be followed through
the body by the radiation it produces).
You
will then be asked to rest quietly for 1 hour to allow the tracer to be
properly distributed throughout the body. You will then be scanned. The
scan itself takes approximately 20 minutes. After that you may go home.
You
will need to avoid close contact with pregnant women, babies and small
children for the rest of the day.
