This test provides a picture of the developing fetus.
This examination is safe and painless; there is no radiation involved.
When you were referred by your physician for a radiological exam, you
may have been told about certain instructions to be done prior to the
exam, or when you were scheduling your appointment, the scheduler should
have informed you about the preparations that should be done prior to
your exam. If you did not or if you want a recheck, you can refer to the
information listed below.
Keep in
mind that you may have been given some additional or different
instructions, based on your own particular circumstances. If you have

radiologist if you have any questions. It is best to call between 10
a.m. and 10 p.m., Saturday through Thursday.
Instructions
If you are in your first three
months of pregnancy, please drink three to
four glasses of clear liquids, such as water, juice, etc. one hour
before your scheduled examination. PLEASE DO
NOT EMPTY YOUR BLADDER!!
If you are in your fourth to
ninth month of pregnancy, please drink one
to two glasses of clear liquids one hour before your scheduled
examination. PLEASE DO NOT EMPTY YOUR BLADDER!!

The procedure usually
takes approximately 45 minutes. Please note that examination times may
vary.
After you are in the examination room, you will be asked to change into
a gown and provide a brief history. You will then be placed on a
stretcher. In order to obtain quality images, we will need to place a
water-based gel on your abdomen. A plastic device called a transducer
will be placed over your abdominal area and moved back and forth to
obtain the images necessary to answer your physician's questions.

After the exam
you can resume your normal activities.
Results of your
exams will be discussed with you by your doctor.
